How and why did you get involved in roller derby?
Moved away from the land of my long time sports of rowing and rugby, and derby filled the void!

How long have you been involved with derby?
I'm well into my 9th season now.

What’s the story behind your derby name? How did you pick yours? What's the meaning behind your number?
I was given the name "The Canadian Crusher" when I first started derby, and it never quite felt right- too serious. A couple months in we were doing "swimmers" (an ab workout) and the trainer told us to move faster, and then he said "sizzle like bacon in a pan" for some reason and I knew what my name was meant to be. My number is 49, as in degrees of latitude north, where Canada is.

What was the easiest move for you to learn? What was the hardest?
Running on skates was the easiest to learn. Transitions have been the hardest.

What is your favorite derby story so far?

In what ways has roller derby changed your life?
It's allowed me to meet and be friends with people I would not ordinarily get to meet employed as a rock doctor at a university.

What one piece of gear would you recommend?
A can do attitude.

What advice do you have for someone thinking about joining derby?
Give it a try, and don't be afraid to fail, to fall or to ask someone to show you how they do something you want to learn.
