Orange County

What do you do for a living?
I teach elementary school.

What are your favorite hobbies (besides derby)?
Being outside – gardening, floating in my pool, cooking delicious plants

What are your pre-derby sports, if any?
I was a competitive figure skater and gymnast as a child, but I haven’t played any sports as an adult.  Playing a team sport has been a new experience for me – I’ve much to learn about communication and strategy.

Did you have any skating experience before joining derby?

What's your pump up song?
No need to get pumped up when I have skates on my feet.  The adrenaline rush begins while I’m driving to practice.

What is a fun fact about you?
I can taste colors.

Favorite food?
All the veggies

If you had a secret power, what would it be?
Mute button for this noisy world!

Who is your derby crush?
My teammates!  Honestly, my heart swells when I think about this group of strong women.

How and why did you get involved in roller derby?
I looked into playing derby about 8 years ago, but didn’t feel confident enough to get involved.  About a year ago, a friend of mine saw OCRD practicing in Garden Grove and suggested I check it out.  I went to the orientation the next week and started skating within a few days.

How long have you been involved with derby?
A little over a year

What’s the story behind your derby name? How did you pick yours?
My derby name is a play on my last name and my tendency to find a sneaky way through the pack.

What was the easiest move for you to learn? What was the hardest?
Backwards skating and transitions are easiest for me.  Plow stops are the hardest.

What is your favorite derby story so far?
Not much of a storyteller, but there was that time that Scald Eagle and I hung out and didn’t eat Reese’s.

In what ways has roller derby changed your life?
Derby has given me an outlet for my abundant energy, which has calmed the inner twitchiness a bit.

What one piece of gear would you recommend?
Strong legs

What advice do you have for someone thinking about joining derby?
Try it – it really is for anyone that wants to play.  We will teach you how to skate and look forward to crashing into you!
