What do you do for the league?
I have been a referee for six years and the head referee for the last four.
Where did you grow up?
Mostly around Southern California.
What do you do for a living?
I am a web developer.
What are your favorite hobbies (besides derby)?
Eeehhh... Derby eats up a lot of my time lol.
What are your pre-derby sports, if any?
Played a little baseball in high school and roller hockey in the 90s.
Did you have any skating experience before joining derby?
Yeah, with the roller hockey, but that was about 18 years before starting derby so I had to start all over.
What is a fun fact about you?
At one time, I was the 5th best Overpower player in the world. It remains to be seen, but that may have been my peak.

If you had a secret power, what would it be?
I would like to be able to smell great ALL THE TIME.
How and why did you get involved in roller derby?
The girlfriend bought me a ticket to my first event. She’s a skater in the league.
How long have you been involved with derby?
Six very long, challenging years.
What’s the story behind your derby name? How did you pick yours?
Many years ago I had earned the nickname of Jonslaught based on a comic book character that was introduced at the time.
What's the meaning behind your number?
That’s a very long story. I was going to write an essay about it, but I figured nah. I have to get this questionnaire done and it’s already late and Squirrel is upset with me... Let’s just leave it as it has extreme meaning to me based on a major life event that I had to overcome.
What is your favorite derby story so far?
I could tell you, but the guilty parties would be pretty upset and that could lead to lawsuits, and...
In what ways has roller derby changed your life?
In general I’m much more positive and I carry over the confidence I gain into real life.
What advice do you have for someone new to derby?
Do not give up. Stay with it. Things will get better! If this was easy, everyone would do it.
