I have had a number of jobs that help build confidence in youth. I absolutely love working with kids and helping them grow into humans with all the self love. I currently work in the medical field with an amazing ophthalmology team.

What are your favorite hobbies (besides derby)?
If I am on skates (not at derby practice), than you can find me at the skatepark. Outside of that, I love art, dancing and being silly.

I was captain of my JV cheer team and then stayed to coach after I graduated.

I had ZERO skating experience!

What is a fun fact about you?
I actually wanted to join the wrestling team in High School, but my mommy said no.

Favorite words of encouragement?
"If you don't fall, then you’re not trying hard enough." - Jukes of Hazzard

When I first started as a fresh meat in derby, I was so incredibly scared to fall in front of all the advanced skaters. A good friend shared these words of wisdom with me, and it completely changed my outlook on how I showed up to practice. This sport is not about looking good. It's about pushing yourself. And I will never forget that.

If you had a secret power, what would it be?
It would be to pick up any skill in one day.

How and why did you get involved in roller derby?
I was in a pretty heavy depression and needed to focus on myself. Derby literally changed my life.

How long have you been involved with derby?
Next month will be my 3 year anniversary (:

What’s the story behind your derby name? How did you pick yours?
When my dad was growing up, his nickname was "the Homie Hook" which is a play off our last name.

What's the meaning behind your number?
I wasn't feeling very creative, so I picked 8 as my favorite number. Well, when I was 8 years old, my sister was 5 years old. So now I am #85 haha

What is your favorite derby story so far?
Meeting all of my beautiful friends

In what ways has roller derby changed your life?
1) I came out to my friends and family as a Queer woman.
2) I gained so much confidence in my own abilities.
3) I grew to love my thick, muscular body

What advice do you have for someone new to derby?
Please do not give up. Derby is not always an easy journey, but it is so worth it!
